A Message from Principal Felice Lepore

Students that have the privilege of attending the Urban Assembly School for Careers in Sports (UASCS) leave after four years with a rich and fulfilling intellectual experience, preparing them for the next stage of their life. The UASCS philosophy focuses on receiving education both inside and outside of the classroom. Through a wide variety of Internships, Mentoring, College Now and Volunteer Programs, we provide our students with an academically diverse experience. We prepare our students for college, but our greatest achievement is to have students emerge from our school as life long learners.
An important factor in the success of our school is our staff. Our teachers are dedicated educators who are successful with teaching a diverse group of learners. They are often seen sharing information and teaching techniques in order to better serve the individual needs of our students. Additionally, our security and administrative professionals contribute daily to the smooth and efficient manner our running our school. Each staff member performs their responsibilities in a way that allows the student the ability to focus on academics, without the distractions of any external issues.
Our academic rigor is evident in the sequence of courses that students are expected to complete while attending school. The curriculum includes four years of Math, Science, English and History, as well as all other electives needed to attain a New York State High School Diploma.
Success in education is like a triangle. The staff, students and parents are all equal partners, each working and supporting the other. Our staff communicates directly with parents. When teachers function in the role of an advisor, they call home to monitor the students’ progress. These conversations take place at least eight times during the academic school year. Parents look forward to the personal relationship they develop with the school through these interactions and the school benefits from the insight of the parents.
Being a small school doesn’t guarantee success. Students who believe in themselves and parents and teachers that encourages thinking and self confidence, forms the basis of academic success For these reasons and more, I am honored to call myself the principal of THE URBAN ASSEMBLY SCHOOL FOR CAREERS IN SPORTS.
